What is SIG-Soft?

SIG-SOFT stands for the Special Interest Group on Software Engineering. The goal is to improve the quality of software written by the participating students. Members of this special interest group have the chance to develop software based on any topic they wish to explore, and to then be able to teach others about their findings.

Potential Topics

  • Web Services Apps - using web services like Flickr or Facebook to interact with desktop applications
  • Mobile Device Development - iPhone, Android,etc development
  • Web Application Development - web app creation techniques using Ruby on Rails, Django, PHP, etc.
  • Concurrency in Software - using multithreading, semaphores, etc.
  • Affective or Ubiquitous computing - computing based on emotions, or writing software to be integrated in everyday objects (respectively)

Meeting Information

Exact dates will be put on the calendar. The group meets once every other Wednesday.

Topics

  • Sept 30, 2009 - Cocoa vs .NET - A simple paint application will be created in both Windows and Mac, showcasing the unique nature of both frameworks and platforms.
